  • 1 lb ground chicken Can be substituted with turkey, beef, or plant-based meat.
  • 1 medium bell pepper
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 cloves garlic Minced.
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar Adds sweetness to the dish.
  • 4 buns baker's or regular burger buns Fresh bakery buns are recommended.
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning Use your favorite brand.
  • 1 jalapeƱo optional, sliced Use for additional spice if desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onions and bell pepper; cook until soft, about 4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add the ground chicken to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until no longer pink.
Cooking
  1. Stir in Cajun seasoning, crushed tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and a bit of water if the mixture appears thick.
  2. Let the mixture bubble over medium heat until glossy and heated through.
Serving
  1. Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the buns.
  2. Melt cheese on top for an extra treat, if desired.

Notes

Best served with coleslaw, pickles, or sweet potato fries. Great as leftovers and can be made in advance. Adjust the spice level to taste.
