Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced Partially freeze the steak for easier slicing.
  • 4 cups broccoli florets Fresh is preferred for a crunchy texture.
Stir-Fry Sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce For gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar Soft scoop kind.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh is best for flavor.
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced Optional, but adds great flavor.
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch To thicken the sauce.
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil Optional, for added flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Partially freeze the flank steak for 15-20 minutes to make slicing easier.
  2. Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain.
  3. Wash and cut the broccoli into small florets.
  4. In a mug, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and cornstarch to create the stir-fry sauce.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet or wok over high heat until smoky.
  2. Add a little oil and let it heat until shimmering.
  3. Add the sliced beef in batches. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure a good sear.
  4. Stir-fry the beef for about 2-3 minutes until browned and transfer to a plate.
  5. Add the broccoli to the same skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over the top.
  7. Stir until everything is coated in the sauce and heated through, about 1-2 minutes.
